Check on yourself

So there is a concept of going back to basics, and I believe there is something very powerful in that concept. This phrase is associated with very strong adjectives like ‘essence’ and ‘foundation’. And I feel like I forgot how to do that. I sometimes feel life is moving so fast that, to be honest, sometimes you forget to check if you are actually doing the basics. Or maybe I am just underestimating the power of the concept.

So I want to go back to basics and check on myself, And I encourage everyone who is currently not doing that to remember to go back,  because let's be honest, no one has got you the way you've got you. Not even family!

I want to start reflecting on myself my actions and choices align with my authentic self by asking the check in questions below:

Did I do something for ME today?

To just take time to do something that makes me happy. It could be reading a book, going for a walk,or simply relaxing relaxing in the couch. For me a good podcast episode have been doing wonders for me.

Did I healthily challenge myself this week or this month?

Think about whether I have done something to push myself positively. Maybe you tried a new hobby or learned a new skill. It could be something as simple as folding clothing properly. I was been working on perfecting my clothes-folding technique 😂. It's crazy how folding clothes actually intimidates me.

Did I get started on something important to me?

Reflect on whether I have taken the first step on a project or goal that matters to me. I know there is something magical about s just taking the first step to start something. With every personal project that you start, you are a step closer to making your dreams a reality I really believe I should not underestimate that.

Did I show up for myself?
Consider if I honored my commitments to myself. Did I set boundaries, respect my needs, and make choices that are good for me?

By asking these questions, I can reconnect with my essence and foundation by pouring back into myself. Listening to myself and feeding my goals and desires as much as I would feed other parts of my life. I realised how important it is to be intentional about how I navigate life. Hopefully, making it a written commitment will help hold myself accountable for my decisions and actions..

Venting about my adoration for The muffinz

Amazon,2020 Ever Since I heard The muffinz singing Umsebenzi we ndoda from my Grandmother’s silver CRT Sony television set one Saturday afternoon, on SABC 3 at that time I was around 12 years old, I didn’t know much about good music, but, what I knew was my ears were certainly sold. The muffinz is a 5-piece male band that was birthed at the University of Johannesburg. They bring a variety of elements to the group comparable to bringing different ingredients to make  muffins, which explains their band name. They make groovy yet soulful music. What I admire about this group is that they don’t fit into one specific genre, their sound has a jazzy, afro soul to it with sprinkles of reggae. They shift effortlessly between these sounds. They are in my opinion the best band to ever come out of South Africa (as the generation Z would put it 'Period!') As I matured over the years, my appetite for good soulful music had overwhelmingly increased, as well as my unde...
