How To Overcome The Fear Of Rejection

Rejection can feel like a slap in the face for most of us. According to Verywellminds.com the fear of rejection tends to affect our ability to succeed. You should not let the agitation of rejection stop you from pursuing your goals.

1. Remember that it happens to everyone

Everyone experiences rejection at some point and time in their life’s. In fact according to Business Insider rejection could be happening 988 million times per day. J.K Rowling the author of award winning book series Harry Potter got rejected by 12 different publishing house before Bloomsbury accepted Harry Potter. Oprah Winfrey before she became the star of day time TV she was fired from her job as an evening news reporter at Baltimore's WJZ-TV because she was "unfit for television news" and couldn’t sever her emotions from her stories. But look at her now successful and powerful and giving away vehicles.

1. Accept it

Remember that you are human. Rejection can evoke a complicated mixture of feelings. Let yourself feel whatever emotions you feel and let time to it’s thing. And be honest with yourself.

1. Learn something from rejection

Rejection should motivate you to do better.  Rejection can be a sign that need to be doing something you are not or you need to stop doing something you are already doing completely. When you face rejection ask yourself, ‘what can I improve about myself or your project for the future’. ‘Do I really need to try again’.

1. Talk about it

Talk to someone you trust about it either being a close friend, or family member or consider seeing a professional. Because the fear of rejection can lead to underlying issues such as depression, anxiety and distress in your everyday life.

Spend time talking to people who love and care about you and people make you feel wanted and constantly encourage you.

1. Figure out what really scares you about rejection

Getting to the “why” of your fear is the best way to over come your phobia of rejection. Maybe you fear rejection because you have a low value or opinion of yourself. By realizing this you can prioritise developing habits such, self affirmation, or thinking more objectively and rationally towards your insecurities

Or maybe you have a fear of getting rejected for a specific job or internship and you feel financially insecure. Outline possibilities incase you don’t find the the job or internship you want from the get go.

With that being said  dear immortals, always remember that “when you give yourself permission to communicate what matters to you in every situation you will have peace and despite rejection or disapproval. Putting a voice to your soul helps you to let go of the negative energy of fear and regret” - Shannon L.Alder.
